Disaster Services

The Northeast Nebraska Chapter of the American Red Cross responds to all disasters in our area as well as assist other counties as needed.  When responding to disasters we provide:

  • Financial assistance with qualifications to  victims of single family fires

  • Referring families for financial assistance from the government

  • Serving as liaison with other organizations and agencies

  • Setting up shelters during major disasters

  • Providing rehabilitation support for fire departments

Blood Services

The Northeast Nebraska Chapter of the American Red Cross holds a blood drive each Tuesday.  In addition to the weekly blood drive the following services are offered:

  • Services for patients to donate their own blood for certain types of surgery

  • Identifying and recruiting healthy blood donors to ensure an adequate blood supply

Health and Safety Services

Red Cross instructors certify hundreds of people in Red Cross health and safety course each year.  These courses help make our communities healthier, safer places to live. 

The following courses are offered:

  • Red Cross CPR - For more information on CPR classes, read this information provided by the American Red Cross.
  • First Aid
  • Lifeguard training and swimming
  • Bloodborne Pathogens

In addition to the aforementioned courses the Northeast Nebraska Chapter of the Red Cross also offers the following safety services:

  • Babysitter Training 

  • Red Cross First Aid and Water Training Safety Education

  • Protect your back training

Military/Social Services

Red Cross paid and volunteer staff provide emergency related services to members of the United States armed forces, veterans, their family and civilians. 

One of the services provided is the Armed Forces Emergency Services (AFES) Program.  Through the AFES program the following services are provided:

  • Emergency communications that keep military personnel in touch with their families during family emergencies

  • Financial assistance working with military aid societies to provide interest-free loans or grants when urgent personal or family crises arise

  • Referrals providing information and other social services to military families

International Services

Through Red Cross national headquarters, each chapter is linked to the International Red Cross Movement.  The International Red Cross Movement is dedicated to protecting human life worldwide.  Local chapters are able to offer a number of unique international services such as:

  • Responding with personal, financial aid, and gifts in kind to appeals for assistance in international disasters

  • Location services for people separated from their relatives because of war, civil disturbance, or a natural disaster

  • Educating the American public about International Humanitarian Law, the Geneva Conventions, and the Red Cross Principles.
